School Voices

It has been a fantastic start to 2023 for OLGC Parish Primary School.  Each year we focus on one of our school values.  This year is the Year of Gratitude.  Gratitude is our sweet acknowledgement of the Lord’s hand in our lives.  It is an expression of our FAITH.  ‘I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart.  I will tell of all your wonderful deeds,’ Psalm 9:1.  It has been wonderful to see gratitude trees and prayer cloths popping up around the school and students engaging in prayers of thanksgiving.  We have also entered into the Lenten season, beginning with a Burning of the Palms Liturgy, a pancake lunch and our Ash Wednesday Mass.

All of our classes have started the term focusing on Wellbeing.  Students have enjoyed incursions from a range of providers, developing their personal and social skills through topics such as relationships, empathy, bullying and leadership.  We have worked with Kids Helpline, Project Rockit, Values for Life and even had a visit from the muppets.

In other news, our Year 6s have confidently stepped into their new leadership roles and our Preps have already had their first full week of school.  Our 5/6s travelled to Canberra to learn first-hand about Democracy and Government and had a great time visiting our Federal Parliament as well as the many other attractions in the capital.  Many of our senior students competed in the District Swimming competition and our school won the small schools section.

The year has only just begun and we look forward to the many wonderful plans for the year ahead.
