School Captain Report

Hello!  We are Matilda & Anika, OLGC’s 2022 School Leaders.  We are honored to take on the role this year and are grateful for the opportunity to be ambassadors for the school that we love.

There have been some wonderful things that have already happened this year.  We have had lots more opportunities to go to the church, after two years of lots of restrictions.  We have restarted our weekly class Masses, had an Opening of the School Year Mass and a Prep Buddy Mass.

A new year brings great opportunities at OLGC and more new leaders.  Each leader has lots of responsibilities and projects to work on.  All 5/6’s had a Leadership Day this week to help us consider what kind of leader we want to be and how we can make the most of our roles this year.

We are well underway with the responsibilities that come with our role.  We have already presented at two very successful whole school assemblies and a few of the new Monday morning assemblies.  Another addition we have added to the school this year is our weekly School Captains’ awards, where we identify students in the school who are displaying the OLGC school values of Love, Courage, Gratitude, Respect and Empathy.

Last week we had our first SRC (Student Representative Council) meeting of the year and the student leaders from each class had lots of great ideas for how to make OLGC even better.  Our Wellbeing Leaders are busy preparing for the National Day Against Bullying.  This year OLGC is focusing on the theme of a kindness culture.  The school leaders and wellbeing leaders are working closely with the SRC to come up with ways to promote kindness.  Next week, each class is going to have a Kindness Kringle, where each student will have a secret person they spend the week doing random acts of kindness for.  We think this will be a really positive week.

This week our school community participated in Clean Up Australia day, which the Sustainability Leaders ran very smoothly and they are working on preparing for Earth Hour at the end of term.

Our Sports Leaders have been running tabloid sports at lunchtimes in the yard and supporting our swimming team at their district and division competitions.

Our Social Justice Leaders are organising our annual Project Compassion campaign and have a fun St Patrick’s Day fundraising celebration planned for next week.  The whole school will be dressing-up in green and they will be selling green themed treats at lunch.

Lastly, our Arts Leaders are busy working with the Art Club and Mrs Brown preparing an ANZAC day commemoration art piece for the garden.

We look forward to the year ahead and can’t wait to be a part of all the amazing things that will happen this year at OLGC!
