A Joyful Celebration at Our Holy Redeemer

Our Holy Redeemer is our friend Teresa’s local church.  When she heard we were looking for a church to get married, she suggested we come and take a look.  We were told it had not been used for a wedding since the renovation – which surprised us.

Our first feeling when we visited the church was that it radiated light, love and warmth – all the things you would want in a house of God.

We both immediately knew we had found the place to say “I do”.

Our June 2020 wedding was impacted by COVID-19, and as a result we had to reschedule to 22 January 2021.

Father Brendan, Sally and Kirsten were so accommodating with the changes we needed to make and were in regular touch with us to provide understanding and support.

As the day neared, we checked the number of locally acquired COVID cases and the weather for that Friday – the stats were perfect zero and 26.

The day finally arrived and with it, bought clear blue sunny skies, no masks and a mixture of trepidation, excitement but most of all the wonderful feeling that after months of uncertainty we’d be wed surrounded by our family and friends at Our Holy Redeemer. The feeling in the church was one of love, excitement and wonder which was fitting as the reason we’d gathered was to celebrate our love and lifelong commitment to one another.

The church looked stunning – the pews were decorated with tulle and gyp posies, the altar with white and pink oriental lilies and the sounds of the Wedding March echoed through.

As the ceremony began, the whole audience was captured by Father Brendan and the beautiful message he delivered and imparted on each person that was present. Half of those gathered were not of the Catholic faith, however all of them told us how much they enjoyed the service and how much they could relate to Father’s words. Our wedding day was the most wonderful day of our lives.

Thank you Father Brendan for the beautiful service you gave, and for marrying us and making our day so special. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Sally McIntosh, Kirsten Italiano, Joan Griffith, Chris Collery and Teresa Tennant for all their help.

The church service was followed by photos at Surrey Park and a reception at Vogue Ballroom full of dancing, drinking and fun.
