What a fabulous start to the term we have had.

The whole school concept for all Inquiry learning and Religion classes from F-6 this term for ‘InquiRE’ is CREATIVITY.

Creativity is defined as…….

‘the ability to imagine new ways of solving problems, approaching challenges, making connections or creating products. Creativity is not based on a formula, but on thinking that relates to discovery and inquiry’.

This definition is reflected in learning approaches that allow students to express themselves in ways that develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Practicing creativity in learning and using student-centred techniques including project-based assignments that require students to think of their own solutions to problems, as well as self-directed assignments, gives students input on what they’d like to learn.

We commenced the term with Mass celebrating the beginning of term and for the first two weeks of Term 3, the students have celebrated NAIDOC week. The senior school students researched a First Nations Elder and wrote a Bio-poem collaboratively in pairs about a significant Elder. Weavings were made from scraps of wool and cardboard and they all presented their information orally in yarning circles at our school assembly.

This term our Year 6 students are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation in 2023 will take place at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 6.00 pm on Friday, 8 September and at 3.30 pm on Sunday, 10 September.  Catechist classes also commenced this week at OLGC and we pray for all staff and students preparing for the sacrament at this time.  A Reflection Day has been planned for 1 September at the Don Bosco Centre in Lysterfield with Gen Bryant.  We look forward to sharing our reflections with you at the end of the term.

Finally, our Prep students celebrated 100 days of school this week. It was a delight to witness them all celebrating this special milestone and capture these memories for years to come. They were very creative in their dress-ups as 100 year olds and the comments they shared about what they would like to do when they are 100 were priceless and precious..

Some beautiful responses included….

‘When I am 100,’I want to be kind, walk slow, cook for my grandchildren, have grey hair and most importantly, to be happy’

100 days of Prep celebration – our students aged for the occasion.
