World Teachers Day

Last Friday 27 October, Our Lady of Good Counsel Primary School (OLGC) celebrated World Teachers Day.  This year’s theme was ‘Hats Off to Teachers’, to honour all the wonderful work that teachers do.  Students wore hats to celebrate and wrote messages of gratitude for the OLGC staff.  Our amazing Parents and Friends Association spoiled our teachers with morning tea.

Prep Firefighter Visit

Over the past fortnight, the Prep students were visited by some firefighters from the Hawthorn Fire Station to teach them about fire safety.  Students learnt about where they might go if there was a fire in their house, to get low when they see smoke and the importance of learning their home addresses.  Their second visit was an opportunity for them to look at the fire truck and they even got to use the hose!

Kids in Space National Champions

This week, four of our 5/6 students travelled to Adelaide for the Kids in Space National finals.  Not only was it an amazing accomplishment to be selected to represent Victoria at this event, but our team won the national competition as well.  The students had a wonderful experience visiting the Australian Space Discovery Centre and sharing their hydroponic solution for growing food in space.  Congratulations to our students for your creativity and design thinking, you will make great future problem solvers.

All Saints Mass

Last Wednesday was All Saints’ Day and the school community joined the Parish community to honour the saints who have gone before us, setting an inspiring example of faith, love, and devotion.  This was a lovely opportunity for our community to come together in solidarity, to commune with the saints, and to reflect on their beatitudes.

Family Carols Night

OLGC will have our annual Family Carols Night on Wednesday 6 December.  We invite our Parish community to join us to see our Preps in the Nativity, followed by Christmas carols with the rest of the school.  Our carols will be held on the grassed area at OLGC.  Community members are warmly invited to bring a picnic and join in the festivities, beginning at 6pm.
