Celebrating a Positive Start to the School Year!

As we embrace the wonder of a new year, it brings us immense joy to share the positive vibes and exciting accomplishments that have marked the beginning of the school year at OLPS. The air is filled with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a palpable sense of community spirit.

Our school year kicked off with open arms as we welcomed both familiar faces and new members into our learning community. We have already had the pleasure of celebrating our Opening of School Mass, District Swimming Trials, Information evenings and next week our Whole School Athletics’ Carnival and soon to come Welcome Picnic.

This term we are exploring the question “Who do we want to be?” A unit of work that looks at the concepts of Identity and Influence and part of the Health curriculum. The question also lends itself to exploration through a faith lens. At our Beginning of School Year Mass this week, each class composed a pledge in response to this question; “Who do we want to be?

I would love to share them with you!

In Prep we want to be kind, share our things and be a good friend to others.

In 1/2U we want to be a class who shares God’s kindness and love with all people. We want to be able to recognise and celebrate our own strengths as well as the unique qualities of those around us. We strive to be leaders through our actions and words in our school, homes, and communities. We appreciate the little and big moments each day and take the time to show empathy, gratitude and mindfulness. We want to be responsible and respectful learners who display a persistent attitude.

In 1/2L we want to be a community of brave learners, approaching new ideas with a growth mindset and persisting when challenges come our way.  We want to encourage each other in the classroom and on the playground by recognising the unique strengths, gifts and talents that God has given each of us and which make our classroom community a strong team. We want to be honest and accountable when we make mistakes and strive to use our words and actions for good. Just like Jesus, we hope to be people of great love, care and generosity.

In 3/4LH we want to be a respectful team of students and teachers. We are kind, hardworking and well mannered. We will help others and ourselves by using positive language, taking risks and focusing on our learning. We care for each other and we collaborate to reach goals. When someone says stop, we stop. We will treat others the way they want to be treated through inclusivity, care for God’s Creation and adding happiness to all who meet and know us”

In 3/4DC we care about each other and our classroom and our school. We share what we have and listen to each other with our eyes, ears and heart. We learn, laugh, and collaborate with everyone. We help each other learn by sharing our ideas respectfully. We work hard, and persist because we are striving to develop a growth mindset. We stand up for ourselves and others, and when someone asks us to stop, we stop. We understand that mistakes help us learn and support each other so that we can learn from our mistakes. We ensure everyone feels welcome and feels a sense of belonging at OLPS because we are all part of God’s creation. This is who we are even when no one is watching because we are 3/4DC.

In 5/6 BS we want to be class members that try to be the best they can be  by showing optimism,  honesty , kindness  and respect.  We will try to help each other when we need support, understanding that we are all learning and are at different stages of this journey. We will try to show respect by listening when others are talking. We will try to be inclusive by smiling at others and saying good morning to our classmates and teachers.  We will try to show gratitude and optimism even when it is hard. As role models we will show respect for ourselves, others and the environment. We will be the face of God to others.

In 5/6HS we want to be people who make life beautiful for ourselves and others. As class members we aspire to be positive, focussed and motivated. We will try to encourage one another and support one another when times are challenging. As friends we aspire to be loyal, patient and to be better listeners. We will try to accept one another, respect other opinions and show empathy. As leaders we aspire to be good role models, be visionary and be selfless. We will try to make things less about ourselves and more about others. In all things we will be guided by the life of Jesus.

As the staff of OLPS we want to be teachers who inspire our students to be people of great love. We want to be teachers who nurture curious, lifelong learners. We will encourage our students to be the best version of themselves and achieve their full potential. We hope to inspire change in the world through our teaching. We will listen to our students’ thoughts and ideas and present lessons that are engaging, relevant and meaningful. We will always strive to do our best.

Beyond the classroom, our students are actively engaging in a variety of extracurricular activities. such as Chess Club, Robotics Club, Choir, Tech Club and the Music Bus. Whether it’s sports, arts, or community service, our students continue to demonstrate a remarkable passion for exploring their interests and contributing to the life of our school.

We look forward to welcoming you our Open Days which commence on March 1st and warmly invite you to be actively involved in our school. This year as part of our Arts program we have a focus on design and textiles. So, if you are a keen sewer we would love to hear from you!

Thank you for your continued support of our school.

The photo grabbed my attention and the article gave me much hope and joy. As an educator myself over many years and a member of the Parish Pastoral Council, I feel so confident for this group of children. Their parents have chosen to send their children to OLPS where they hope their own values will be supported. How fortunate are these children when early in their education they are considering “Who do we want to be?” not “What we want to be”. Each grade has set curriculum goals which have an overarching impact on all their education and creates an environment for successful learning which also supports learners to seek both charity and truth in their faith development.
As part of our parish with three Catholic schools OLPS, it’s staff and parents are all to be congratulated on their journey of education within a faith community.
