School Voices

It has been a busy start to the school year for us at Our Holy Redeemer Primary School. Some started school for the first time, others are anticipating a new year of discovery and growth. An exciting year lies ahead for our students.

The second week of February started the season of Lent. On Shrove Tuesday, the day began with Father Hoang leading all our students in a palm burning ceremony, using the palms from previous years. Due to the heat of the day, the burning of the palms was moved into the Church. Passion Sunday provides a wonderful life-death-life symbol of the paschal mystery to explore.

Lent serves as a time for reflection and renewal, where we contemplate what we can give up and strengthen our relationships with one another. Lent ignites the renewal of our faith. The whole school gathered in the Church for Ash Wednesday Mass where all students were blessed with the ashes on their forehead. The ashes symbolising the dust from which God made us.

May our journey over the next 40 days be fulfilling and affirming of others.

Acknowledgement of Country

Towards the end of 2023, the members of our School Parliament worked together to produce the script for a new Acknowledgement of Country to be filmed and read out by our 2024 Grade 6 School Captains. The end result of this collaborative process is now finished and can be seen here.
