A Day of Thanksgiving

Sr Mary McInerney rndm reflects on her diamond jubilee, celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour on Saturday, 3 September 2022.

Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Church was the venue for a McInerney family (three generations) celebration with the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions to celebrate my 60th Anniversary of Profession.  Since my missionary life has taken me to Western Australia, Rome and Kenya this was the first time family members were able to gather with members of the congregation to celebrate a Jubilee.

Fr Brendan was the celebrant and family members were happy to see one of their own, Jordan Burns lead the singing.  At the beginning of the celebration Sr. Catherine, Province Leader, welcomed the guests and gave a brief overview of my missionary journey.

Following the Eucharist all enjoyed a meal and sharing of memories.  While the family have a tradition of an annual extended family gathering this has not been possible since I returned to Australia in 2020.  There was much joy as cousins and their children met.  The most special guest was eight week old Chloe who was introduced to the extended family for the first time.

Special thanks to Kate Baines and Sue Hall who facilitated the late change of venue.
