Becoming a Catholic is a Communal Experience

For adults wishing to find out more about the Catholic faith or be initiated into the Catholic Church, the accepted form of preparation is through the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) program.

At Camberwell, Balwyn Deepdene and Surrey Hills Wattle Park Parishes we have an active team of parishioners (the RCIA team) who accompany the person on their journey as they prepare for the Sacraments of Initiation.

The RCIA process has several distinct stages:-

  • Enquiry
  • The Catechumenate
  • Period of Enlightenment
  • Full Initiation
  • Period of Mystagogy

The group of enquirers, catechists and sponsors meet regularly to share faith, pray and participate in various activities.

The next meeting of the RCIA team will be on Tuesday, 20 July from 7.30 pm in the Gathering Space at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.  Enquiries are always welcome.

If you are interested in joining the RCIA or becoming a Catholic, further information on the process is available on the Parish website.
