From the Parish House

The gospel this week recounts the story of the road to Emmaus.  Two disciples who had lost hope find themselves in conversation with a stranger, who only later they realise was Jesus the crucified and risen one.  In a first step they tell their story and all that has happened to them in the course of the last weeks.  They talk about dashed hopes and lost futures.  The stranger helps them to reflect on this experience in light of the Scriptures.  Then things start to make some sense to them.  They invite the stranger to stay with them and share a meal.  We hear that while they were at table, he took the bread and said the blessing; then he broke it and handed it to them.  Once again we hear that things started to make sense and they recognised him as Jesus, the dead and risen one.  Having been inspired by word and bread they rise from the table and set out on a mission.  We must tell everyone that he is alive!

The basis for our Christian communities is the gathering around word and sacrament.  We are also called to share our stories, our hopes and our dreams and read them in light of the Scriptures and the Eucharist.  During this Easter Season, our Parish Pastoral Council wishes to invite you to do just that.  You are invited to a conversation with me and members of the Parish Council, to reflect on our common life and share our aspirations for the future.

All parishioners from Camberwell, Balwyn Deepdene and Surrey Hills Wattle Park are invited to come together to reflect on the life of our parishes and share your hopes and dreams for the future.

Where: the Gathering Space at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 10 Whitehorse Road, Deepdene

When: 7:30 pm on Wednesday, 26 April 2023
